Quarterly (3 Monthly) Service of a Gaseous Suppression System as per the following National Standards:

  • SANS 369-1 - Part 1 Electrical actuation of gaseous extinguishing systems
  • SANS 369-2 - Part 2 Mechanical actuation of gaseous extinguishing systems
  • SANS 14520-1 - Gaseous fire extinguishing systems (where applicable)
  • SANS 306 Part 4 - Specification for carbon dioxide systems (where applicable)

Purpose & Frequency of Service:

  • Servicing a fire detection system does not constitute a review of system design; it is a verification of the functionality of the existing system.
  • Accordingly, it is not necessarily the case that non-compliance with this standard will be identified at the time of routine servicing, particularly if the original design is not available.
    • Any such advice provided to the user by IBR Fire cannot be regarded (by users, enforcing authorities or any other party) as an implication that the maintenance technician has identified, or has endeavoured to identify, all such areas of non-compliance, or that there has been any review of the original design.

The following service schedule is a culmination of the required checks as per the above standards.

  • Test all electrical detection and alarm systems including:
    • AC Shutdown
    • Fire dampers/curtains
    • Single and Double Knock Programming and Alarm Conditions
    • Interfaces linked to the suppression control system
    • Remote monitoring SMS Notification to be confirmed
  • All system hoses shall be examined for any deficiencies
  • Externally examine pipework for corrosion or mechanical damage
  • Check all control valves for:
    • correct manual function
    • correct automatic function
  • Externally examine containers for signs of damage or unauthorized modification
  • For Non-liquefied gases check the pressure gauges of the extinguishing and pilot container
    • Non-liquefied gases: for inert gas extinguishants that are not liquefied, pressure is an indication of extinguishant quantity. Unless otherwise specified by the authority, if an inert gas extinguishant container shows a loss in pressure (adjusted for temperature) of more than 5 %, it shall be refilled or replaced.
  • For liquefied gases, check weight to verify the correct content of containers.
    • Liquefied gases: for halocarbon extinguishants, if a container shows a loss in extinguishant quantity of more than 5 % or a loss in pressure (adjusted for temperature) of more than 10 %, it shall be refilled or replaced.
  • The date of inspection and the person performing the inspection shall be recorded in the Log Book and a tag attached to the container with the service date.

Price Excludes:

  • Annual Room Integrity Test
  • 10-year Hydrostatic Testing
  • Discharge or Recharge of the Suppression Agent
  • After-hours testing
  • Spares or Repairs
