HYDRO-STATIC TESTING
CATALOGUE NAME : SYSTEMS CATALOGUE FOR PUBLIC
CATEGORY : Industrial Services Technologies / Research

Hydrostatic pressure testing must be carried out every 10 years. Hydrostatic pressure testing of the pressurised gas cylinder should be undertaken in order to prove its strength, integrity and that safety standards are maintained, ensuring your gas cylinders remain safe, in good working condition and suitable for continued use.

HYDRO-STATIC TESTING & REFURBISHMENT OF GAS SUPPRESSION CYLINDERS

All cylinders used in data centre or server room fire protection applications are legally required under the European Standard BSEN1968 (2002) to be hydrostatic pressure tested every ten years.

Hydrostatic pressure testing of the pressurised gas cylinder should be undertaken in order to prove its strength, integrity and that safety standards are maintained, ensuring your gas cylinders remain safe, in good working condition and suitable for continued use.

It is the responsibility of the company, owner or user of the equipment to ensure that periodic hydrostatic testing is undertaken.

Cylinders must be removed and all gases or liquids decanted. The cylinder is then hydro-statically tested to ensure the cylinder can withstand the normal operating pressures. If the cylinders pass this test, it is stamped with the month and year of testing, it is emptied and dried, the valve is rebuilt and finally refilled with the correct type and amount of agent.

A “hydro test” is an approved way to test the structural integrity of a compressed gas container. It is performed by removing the valve, filling the container with water, and then pressuring the container above its operating limit. The expansion of the cylinder is measured, recorded, and analyzed. If cylinder expands beyond certain limits, the cylinder must be condemned.
